Just like a physical office space, Gather gives you a way to look around, actually see what people are up to, and naturally walk over to them. 

This guide will explain how to look around, find people, and use shortcuts to move around the space. 

How to Look Around

To see what's happening in the office, you can click and drag to pan around the map, or use the zoom controls in the lower righthand corner. 

To snap back to your position, click the button that says Show my location or use a keyboard shortcut: ⌘ + L for Macs or Ctrl + L for Windows

How to Find Someone

If you're looking for someone specific, there are a few ways you can find where they're at. 

1. Look for them at their desk. 
2. Open the Participants Panel and look for their name. If they're in an active conversation in a Private Area, you'll see them listed in an Active Area. 
3. Open the Participants Panel and click their avatar to Locate them. This will pan the camera to their location in the office and give you the option to Walk over to talk to them.  

How to Move Around

There are two ways to move your avatar in Gather: 

1. With your keyboard, either the WASD keys or arrow keys. 
2. By double-clicking your mouse on the spot you want to walk to. 

Shortcuts for Moving Around

To help you navigate the office faster, we've built in several shortcuts and buttons. These are also useful in the event that you get stuck or lost in the space. 

To automatically walk to your desk: 

• Open the Personal Menu from the bottom navigation bar and click Walk to  my desk 
• Use the shortcut: ⌘ + d for Macs or Ctrl + d for Windows

You must have a claimed desk in order for this shortcut to work. 

To get to a meeting:

• If you've connected your Google or Outlook calendar, 5 minutes before an event you'll receive a reminder. Click the Take me there button to automatically walk over.

To get to the lobby of your office: 

• Open the Personal Menu from the bottom navigation bar and click the three-dot menu in the top right. Select Send me to lobby. 

To automatically walk over to someone: 

• Right-click their avatar and select Follow. This will walk you over to their location and then continue to follow their avatar if they move around.
• If you Locate someone and decide you want to go talk to them, click the button to Walk Over.
• If they've Waved at you, you'll see a button in the notification to Walk Over. 

To bring someone to your location: 

• If you're in a Private Area, right-click someone's avatar or click their name in the Participants Panel and select Request to join me at [your location]. If they accept, this will automatically walk their avatar to the Private Area you're in. 
• If you're not in a Private Area, right-click someone's avatar or click their name in the Participants Panel and select Request to lead. If they accept, this will automatically walk their avatar next to you and they'll continue to follow you as you move around. 
  • This feature is especially useful for guiding new users around or giving tours of your office.
