For easy collaboration in your Gather office, you can share your screen at any time with everyone you're connected to.

You’ll need to grant Gather permissions from your system and/or browser settings in order to share your screen. Read more here.

Overview

To share your screen, click Screen Share in the bottom navigation bar. Depending on your device and whether you're using the Gather Desktop App or a browser, you’ll see different methods for selecting the screen you want to share.

Use these links to jump to each section:

Screen sharing is not available on the Gather Mobile App at this time. If you need to share your screen during a meeting, you'll need to use the Gather Desktop App or a desktop browser.

When you share your screen, anyone connected with you will be able to see it.

  • If you're in a Private Area, everyone else in the Private Area with you will see your screen.
  • If you're not in a Private Area, anyone standing near you will be able to see your screen.

To stop sharing your screen, click the same Screen Share button in the bottom navigation.

Sharing From the Gather Desktop App

On MacOS 15+

When you click the Screen Share button, the native Apple Screen Share Picker will display.

  • To share your entire screen: Click the button at the top right corner that says Share Entire Screen
  • To share a specific window: Move your mouse onto that window and click Share This Window. If you cannot find the window you want to share, click the button at the top that says Show All Windows.

At this time, it is not possible to share desktop audio with the native Apple Screen Share Picker. If you need to share desktop audio, you can disable the Apple Screen Share Picker by going to Settings > Desktop > General > Disable Native Screenshare Picker. This will allow you to use the built-in Gather Screen Share Selector (see next section for details).

On Windows and previous versions of MacOS

When you click the Screen Share button, a window will open in Gather that allows you to select a specific screen or application. To share computer audio or optimize for video, click the corresponding check box at the bottom of the window.

  • Share computer audio: Use this to play music during a coworking session or share audio clips during a meeting.
  • Optimize for video: Use this to increase the frame rate when sharing videos during presentations. (Note: This option may decrease performance slightly.)

A green border will appear around the window/application you choose to share so you know exactly what you're showing the group.

Screen Sharing From Google Chrome

When you click the Screen Share button in Google Chrome, a browser window will open that allows you to select a specific Chrome Tab, Window, or your Entire Screen.

Make your selection and click Share.

Screen Sharing in Firefox

When you click the Screen Share button in Firefox, you can choose to share a screen or window.

You'll also have the option to mute website notifications while you're sharing.

Choose the option you want to share and click Allow.

Troubleshooting

Review System Permissions

You may need to reset your preferences if you have previously granted system and/or browser permissions for Gather but can no longer use your camera, mic, or screen share.

  • Open System Preferences. Select Privacy & Security and then Screen & System Audio Recording.Mac System Settings.png
This will show the list of applications available to record your screen. If you're using the Gather Desktop App, make sure it's toggled on. If you're using Gather in a browser like Google Chrome, make sure it's toggled on.

After changing the settings, you may need to restart the Gather app or your browser for the changes to take effect.

  • Screen share should work without needing to adjust system permissions. Continue on to the next section.

Update Browser Version

We recommend upgrading your browser to the latest version if using Gather on a desktop browser. After doing this, confirm all browser permissions still allow Gather access.
