For easy collaboration in your Gather space, you can share your screen with all of the people you're connected to.
Before you share your screen for the first time, you'll need to grant Gather permissions from your browser and/or system settings. Read more here.
Overview
To share your screen, select Screen Share in the bottom navigation bar and then select the screen, window, or tab you want to share. Depending on whether you're using the Gather Desktop App or a browser, you may see different settings.
Screen sharing is not available on the Gather Mobile App at this time. If you need to share your screen during a meeting, you'll need to use the Gather Desktop App or a desktop browser.
When you share your screen, everyone connected with you will be able to see it.
- If you're in a Private Area, everyone else in the Private Area with you will see your screen share.
- If you're not in a Private Area, anyone standing near you who's connected can see your screen share.
To stop sharing your screen, click the same Screen Share button.
Sharing Screens from the Gather Desktop App (Recommended)
When you click Screen Share in the bottom navigation bar while using the Gather Desktop App, a window will pop up that will allow you to select a screen or application. You can also share computer audio or optimize for sharing videos.
- Share computer audio: Use this to play music during a coworking session or for sharing audio clips during a meeting.
- Optimize for video: Use this to increase the frame rate when sharing videos during presentations. (Note: This option may decrease performance slightly.)
Select the screen or window you want to share and click Share. A green border will then appear around the window/application so you know exactly what you're sharing to the group.
To stop sharing your screen, click the same Screen Share button in the bottom navigation bar.
Sharing Screens in Google Chrome
When you share your screen in Google Chrome, you can choose to share a specific Chrome Tab, a Window, or your Entire Screen.
Choose the option you want to share and click Share.
To stop sharing your screen, click the same Screen Share button in the bottom navigation bar.
Sharing Screens in Firefox
When you share your screen in Firefox, you can choose to share a screen or window.
You'll also have the option to mute website notifications while you're sharing.
Choose the option you want to share and click Allow.
To stop sharing your screen, click the same Screen Share button in the bottom navigation bar.
Troubleshooting
Review System Permissions
If you have previously granted permissions for Gather but can no longer use your camera, mic, or screen share, you may need to reset your browser permissions or system preferences.
-
Open System Preferences. Select Privacy & Security and then Screen & System Audio Recording.
This will show the list of applications available to record your screen. If you're using the Gather Desktop App, make sure it's toggled on. If you're using Gather in a browser like Google Chrome, make sure it's toggled on.
After changing the settings, you may need to restart the Gather app or your browser for the changes to take effect. -
Screen share should work without needing to adjust system permissions. Continue on to the next section.
Update Browser Version
If you're using Gather on a desktop browser, we recommend upgrading your browser to the latest version. After doing this, confirm that all browser permissions still allow Gather access.
