Share Your Screen

For easy collaboration in your Gather space, you can share your screen with all of the people you are connected to.

In general, you'll do this by selecting Screen Share in the bottom navigation bar and then selecting the screen, window, or tab you want to share. To stop sharing your screen, click the same Screen Share button.

The specifics vary by browser and what you intend to share, which we'll break down in this guide.

Before you share your screen for the first time, you'll need to grant Gather permissions from your browser and/or system settings.

Sharing Screens from the Gather Desktop App

When you click Screen Share in the bottom navigation bar, a window will pop up that will allow you to select a screen or window from your device.

You'll also see a checkbox at the bottom of this window to "Optimize for video." We recommend this if you're planning to play a video during a presentation.

This option may decrease performance slightly, but will increase the frame rate of the video for higher quality sharing.

On Windows devices, you'll also see an option to "Optimize for audio." This is great if you're trying to share music while coworking.

Choose the option you want to share and click Share. A green border will then appear around the window/application so you know exactly what you're sharing to the group.

To stop sharing your screen, click the same Screen Share button in the bottom navigation bar.

Sharing Screens in Chrome

When you share your screen in Chrome, you can choose to share a specific Chrome Tab, a Window, or your Entire Screen.

Choose the option you want to share and click Share

To stop sharing your screen, click the same Screen Share button in the bottom navigation bar.

Sharing Screens in Firefox

When you share your screen in Firefox, you can choose to share a screen or window.

You'll also have the option to mute website notifications while you're sharing.

Choose the option you want to share and click Allow

To stop sharing your screen, click the same Screen Share button in the bottom navigation bar.

Sharing Slides

Sharing slides in Gather works just like sharing any other screen.

Select Screen share in the bottom navigation bar and find the window, screen, or tab with your presentation.

As you click through your slides, they'll share to everyone you're connected with.

To stop sharing your presentation, click the same Screen share button in the bottom navigation.

Sharing Audio

To share audio in Gather, you'll need to use either the Gather Desktop App on Windows or share from a browser.

Sharing audio with the Gather Desktop App on Macs is currently not supported.

Sharing Video

If you plan to share a video, you can hover over the Screen Share button in the bottom navigation bar and select Optimize for video

This changes your screen sharing to HD, which will provide a better viewing experience. However, this also means you'll be sharing more data, so it could cause performance issues for you or people viewing your video share.

Troubleshooting

If you have previously granted permissions for Gather but can no longer use your camera, mic, or screen share, you may need to reset your browser permissions. Mac users may need to reset their system preferences as well.

If you experience the error message of "you don't have permissions", we recommend upgrading your browser version and trying again. If that doesn't work, we also recommend verifying with your company's IT department to make sure they've updated permission to screenshare on Gather.
