You can create your Gather account before or after you create a Space! By default, when you try out Gather, you are an anonymous guest—you are not required to sign in or create an account. If you choose to create an account, it's completely FREE! You don't pay a thing until you make reservations for events or subscriptions.
Warning: It's always safest to create an account prior to spending a lot of time customizing a Space. If you're not signed into your account, you will likely lose your Space or changes you've made to your Space when you clear your browser cache.
We provide several ways to create and sign in to your account on our website and in your Gather Space.
Create an Account
You can create an account easily from Gather.town—just select Sign in in the top right of our home page.
From the Gather website, select Log in in the top right to create your account.
Alternatively, from your Gather homepage, https://app.gather.town/app, select Sign in in the Top Nav Menu.
From gather.town/app, which is your Gather home page, select Sign in.
When you click Sign in or Sign up, the sign in screen displays.
The sign-in window allows you to create an account and/or sign in with Google credentials or with your email address.
Create an account with your Google credentials by selecting Sign in with Google. Otherwise, enter your email address.
Use Google Credentials
If you'd like to create your account through using your Google credentials (also known as OAuth), select Sign in with Google.
- If you are already signed in to your Google account, you will automatically be signed in to Gather.
- If you have not yet signed in to your Google account, a Google window will open for you to enter your Google credentials. You will then be signed in to Gather.
- If you are signed in to more than one Google account, a Google window opens for you to select the account you want to sign in with. You will then be signed in to Gather.
Use Your Email
If you'd like to use your email as your login, type your email address and click Sign in with email. You will receive an email with a 6-digit verification code (from login@mail.gather.town). Enter the code.
Enter the six digit code you receive in your email.
After your code is verified, the character picker loads. After choosing your character design and name, your character will appear in the Space.
I already created a Space! How do I create my account now?
The banner at the top of your anonymous Space warns that you will not be able to edit the Space in the future. You must sign in and recreate the Space to have edit access after you close your browser.
When you create a Space and don't sign in, we display a banner at the top of the Space reminding you that you will lose ownership of the Space. Select the link in the banner to sign in or create an account.
When you click the sign in link, the account login window opens. Follow the steps above to (1) create an account and log in through your Google credentials, or (2) create and account with your email address and get a verification code to sign in.
Am I logged in?
If you're not sure if you're logged into a Space, click your personal menu (name and status) in the navigation bar. Your email address will display under your name if you are signed in. Also, if you're signed in, the main menu shows Sign Out if you are logged in. If you are not logged in, the bottom item is Sign in, and you won't see an email beneath your name, as pictured below.
To see if you're signed into a Space, open the main menu. The bottom item will show either Sign In or Sign Out, depending on whether you're logged in.

The Space dashboard allows you to manage reservations and moderation settings of that particular Space. Any time you'd like to return to your Space or edit the Space in the Mapmaker, select the Enter Space or Edit Space buttons at the top of the window.

You can find the Space dashboard in the following ways:
- Your Gather homepage (https://app.gather.town/app)
- Main menu (Gather icon) on the left of your toolbar
- Settings > Advanced (keyboard shortcut: Ctrl/⌘+P)
- Mapmaker hamburger menu > Manage Space
Gather Homepage
You can access your Gather homepage by going to https://app.gather.town/app. From your Gather homepage, select the ellipses in the bottom right of the Space preview, then select Manage Space. The Space dashboard opens in the same window.
From your personal Gather homepage, select the ellipses of the desired Space, then select Manage Space.
Main Menu
While you are inside your Space, you can select the Main menu (Gather icon) on the left of your toolbar and select Upgrade Gather Plan or Manage Space. (Upgrade Gather Plan displays if your Space does not have an active reservation; Manage Space displays if your Space does have an active reservation.) The Space dashboard opens in a new window.
For a Space without an active reservation, open the Main menu and then select Upgrade Gather Plan. For a Space with an active reservation, select the Home icon and then select Manage Space.
Settings
While you are inside your Space, open Settings from the Main menu or by using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl/⌘+P. On the Space tab, select Advanced, then select Space Dashboard. The Space dashboard opens in a new window.
Select Settings in the Left Nav Menu or in the Bottom Bar. On the Space tab, select Advanced, then select Manage Space.
Mapmaker
While in the Mapmaker for your Space, select the hamburger menu in the top right corner of the window. Select Manage Space. The Space dashboard opens in a new window.
From the Mapmaker, select the hamburger menu, then select Manage Space.

Sign In
You can sign in to Gather several ways. You can visit our product website at https://gather.town and select Sign in in the top right.
Select Sign in in the top right of https://gather.town to sign in to your Gather account.
From your personal Gather homepage (https://app.gather.town/app), select Sign in.
From https://app.gather.town/app, select Sign In in the Top Nav Menu.
If you are already in a Space but are not signed in, open the main menu, then select Sign in.
If you're in a Space, open the main menu, then select Sign In.
Whichever you choose, the sign in window will display. Choose to Sign in with Google or enter your email address.

Use Google Credentials
If you'd like to create your account through using your Google credentials (also known as OAuth), click Sign in with Google.
- If you are already signed in to your Google account, you will automatically be signed in to Gather.
- If you have not yet signed in to your Google account, a Google window will open for you to enter your Google credentials. You will then be signed in to Gather.
- If you are signed in to more than one Google account, a Google window opens for you to select the account you want to sign in with. You will then be signed in to Gather.
Use Your Email
If you'd like to use your email as your login, type your email address and click Sign in with email. You will receive an email with a 6-digit verification code (from login@mail.gather.town). Enter the code.
Check your email and enter the six-digit code to log in.
Warning: The six-digit code expires in 10 minutes. If you have requested a magic link and not received it, check your spam folder.
Sign Out
From your Gather homepage (https://app.gather.town/app), select your name in the Top Nav Menu, then select Sign Out.

Tip: You can see which email you're signed in with beneath your name at the top of the menu.
From within a Space, open the main menu, then select Sign Out.
If you're in a Space, open the main menu, then select Sign Out.
If you'd like to delete your account, visit https://app.gather.town/profile. Confirm that the email listed is for your account, and then select Delete. Your account will be deleted.
Info: If there is no email listed, you are on an anonymous account that exists for your current user session.
Warning: If you delete your account, it cannot be recovered. Associated Spaces may still be accessible, especially if there are other administrators for the Space.
If you have created a Space you no longer want, you can temporarily shut it down or permanently delete it. First, open the Space dashboard. In the Left Nav Menu of the dashboard, select Shut Down or Delete.
Open your Space dashboard and select Shut Down or Delete in the Left Nav Menu. Select whether to Shut Down or Delete Space.
Shut Down
If you'd like to temporarily prevent anyone from accessing your Space, select Shut Down. If a person visits that Space, they can still select a character, but cannot enter the Space. To re-enable the Space, return to the Space dashboard and select Re-Open.
Delete Space
If you'd like to permanently remove your Space, select Delete Space. A warning pop-up displays. Select Delete this space to proceed.
Warning: Once a Space is deleted, there is no way to retrieve it. Please proceed with caution!
After selecting Delete Space, confirm your decision by selecting Delete this space.
Note: You will be unable to delete your Space until you've canceled any upcoming reservations, active subscriptions, or open invoices.
